Who Killed Laura Palmer?
I finally got to see some of Twin Peaks. It is awesome! My good friend Dave Perry let me borrow season one on DVD and it is fantastic. I can see why it was so talked about when I was a kid. If you haven't seen Twin Peaks, it is a very unique show featuring a very unique and unconventional FBI Agent investigating a murder in a small northwestern town. The mystery continues throughout the entire first season (in a good way). I hear it does get solved in the second season. The mystery is not only the murder, but the people, who all seem to have a secret or two, as well as the the town itself. The show, it looks like, clearly influenced Northern Exposure and the X-Files just to name a couple.
The main character, more or less, is Special Agent Dale Cooper, who with his super-swell demeanor (wide grin and a thumbs up!) is this very effective investigator with some very quirky traits. He loves pie and coffee, and relishes every time he gets to eat/drink the ones he thinks are the best in town. He's really fun to watch.
The show was created by David Lynch, who usually does odd, sprawling, but very colorful movies that most times don't have a lot of cohesion. But I believe since this was a collaborative effort with Mark Frost, a writer and director from Hill Street Blues, the show is so far very cohesive and continually engaging.
Now I've heard many things about the apparently infamous second season of Twin Peaks, and have read a little about it. Supposedly it goes into some stranger territory than the first season. But I think that's only natural. There were some odd things in the background of the first season (The Bookhouse Boys, etc.) that were only touched on. Of course I haven't seen it yet, so who knows how far out it gets.
But for now I must wait. The second season is not on DVD yet. The Twin Peaks movie, "Fire Walk With Me" is on DVD but I think I'll wait until I see the end of the series before I watch it.
If you like cool, weird winding plot-lines, odd characters and very nice-looking setting. Twin Peaks is definitely worth checking out!
